A new President as well as his deputy has been elected for the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON).

In an election held among members of the Council-elect on Thursday, the 4th of June, 2015 in Abuja,Prof. Felix Ebhodaghe Okieimen was elected the 4th President of the Institute, while Dr. Shettima Abdulkadir Saidu was elected Vice-President.
Prof. Okieimen, a product of University of Benin (UNIBEN), graduated in1975 with a B.Sc (Honours) degree in chemistry. He then proceeded to University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom, from where he obtained a Ph. D in Polymer Chemistry in 1980.
Commencing his career at UNIBEN as a Graduate Assistant in 1976, he attained the status of Professor of Chemistry in 1989. He was at various times Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences etc. He was also a Visiting Professor to Chemistry Department of Ohio State University, USA from 2001 to 2002.
He attained a watershed in his career as an academic in 2006 when he delivered that year’s Inaugural Lecture at University of Benin.
A former Chairman of Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Edo State Chapter, he was elected National President of the CSN in 2007 – a position he held until 2011.
Prof. Okieimen served as a member of the 2nd ICCON Council, from 2006 to 2009.
He is married with children.
The new ICCON Vice-President, Dr. Saidu is the immediate past National President of the CSN, a position he occupied from 2011 to 2014.
A 1984 chemistry graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, he obtained a Ph. D in pharmaceutical chemistry from the same institution in 2002.
His career as an academic began in 1985 at Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. He later proceeded to Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State, where he attained the position of Deputy Rector. In 2004, he was appointed Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum, Yobe State, a position he held till 2012.
After a brief stint as Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Dr. Saidu was appointed Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa in February, 2014 – a position he currently occupies.
One of the legacies of his tenure as President of the CSN was the formal opening of the first phase of CHEMISTRY HOUSE – the National Secretariat of the CSN in Abuja.
Dr. Saidu was also a member of the 2nd ICCON Council.
He is married with children.
